Born on 1932 Lahore, British India.
He began his career as an assitant director

to I.S JOHAR In 1959 he was given the first directorial debut with DHOOL KA PHOOL In 1970 he married to Pamela Singh In 1973 he founds his own production company YASH RAJ FILMS and launches it with the movie- DAAG.

Later in 1980s he suffers a series of

flops movies like Mashaal, Faasle and Vijay. He comeback again with a bang with CHANDNI which was a big superhit of that time. He also won National Film award as a PRODUCER for the movie- DIL TOH PAGAL HAI and VEER-ZAARA. In 2012 he got best gross of Rs. 307 crore for the movie EK THA TIGER.
