edu February 13, 2013 Portfolio Review Panel California State University, Northridge 18111 Nordhoff St. Northridge, California 91330 Dear Portfolio Review Panel, I am currently a freshman at California State University, Northridge and I write to you today to indicate that I am capable of receiving a passing grade. As a student, I am improving everyday day academically. Being placed in a developmental English course, which some students find that inconvenient and unnecessary, did not have a negative impact on me. I took it as an opportunity to improve my skills as a writer and critical thinker, in which I have now acquired. I want to take in the knowledge that I have gained, learn more along the way, and continue on with my educational experiences. Having been assigned many essays, journals, free writes and receiving feedback, I can say I have witnessed my improvements and writing structure. A few things I have learned are that I can now say I know how to do is a works cited and properly format in MLA. Professor Wingate also did a gratifying job introducing rhetorical terms and helping us incorporate rhetoric in our writing, for example, how to use and identify ethos, pathos and logos in writing. I was taught to include these views into our written text to make it more prominent. I also believe I improved in maintaining a topic and sticking within the boundaries of it. I can also relate to an audience, being able to write to a specific type of reader, and persuade them to agree with me in an argument. Reading and writing different types of ways will help me as a student, and in the end I hope to continue improving in literature. I feel like being able to be literate and having the ability to think and analyze my own or others work is an important factor in English. Furthermore, I always do my best in any given assignment and I can tell you now, before you view my portfolio, that you can most likely see improvement in my work.
