Why is management necessary? How do you think management has evolved? Management is the act of working with people and resources to effectively and efficiently accomplish organizational goals (Bateman & Snell, 2011). Management is necessary because in order to accomplish organizational goals someone must be responsible for determining what goals need to be pursued, determining what needs to take place in order for the goals to be accomplished, assembling the necessary resources to accomplish the set goals, coordinating employees with specific tasks, motivating employees to stimulate high performance, monitoring the progress being made toward reaching set goals and taking corrective action when goals are not being reached (Bateman & Snell, 2011). Management has evolved in many ways, such as with globalization making it necessary to manage a more diverse talent pool from around the world, knowledge management learning and utilizing intellectual resources, learning to use technology for greatest benefits, and collaboration with employees across the organization and with people outside of the organization to find ways to more efficiently and effectively meet goals (Bateman & Snell, 2011)
