FORCES IN VERTICAL CIRCULAR MOTION

Am I accelerating????

IS THERE AN ACCELERATION?

WHEN DO YOU FEEL WEIGHTLESS?

WEIGHTLESSNESS

WEIGHTLESSNESS
WEIGHT

the force an object exerts against a supporting object. there is no support force, gravity is not felt as weight.

If

Feeling

of weightless and heaviness are associated with normal force.

PROBLEM-SOLVING

Anna is riding on a roller coaster at Enchanted Kingdom in Laguna. Anna is moving at 6.3 m/s over the top of a hill that has a radius of curvature of 12.7 m. Use Newton's second law to determine the magnitude of the applied force of the track against Anna's 621 kg roller coaster car.

PROBLEM-SOLVING

Rachel is riding on a roller coaster at Star City. She experiences a downward acceleration of 12.5 m/s2 at the top of the loop and an upward acceleration of 24.0 m/s2 at the bottom of the loop. Use Newton's second law to determine the normal force acting upon Anna's 50-kg body at the top and at the bottom of the loop.

SEATWORK
What is the speed of a 0.5 kg pebble attached to 1.5 m string if the centripetal force exerted on it is 15 N? 2. A flat (unbanked) curve on a highway has a radius of 220 m . A car rounds the curve at a speed of 25.0 m/s. What is the minimum coefficient of friction that will prevent sliding?
1.

SEATWORK

John is riding a roller coaster and encounters a loop. He is traveling 6 m/s at the top of the loop and 18.0 m/s at the bottom of the loop. The radius of curvature is 16.0 m. Use Newton's second law to determine the normal force acting upon John's 80kg body at the top and at the bottom of the loop.
