Coulombe device test (pendulum type) Part 2

Forewords : In part 1 of the test, we establish some behaviors of the device such as the fact that gain doesnt increase with pulse strenght, unlocking the wings always give a gain and also that gain doesnt systematicly appears while decreasing or increasing any particuliar variable. Starting with this information, test 2 will only be perform on unlocked wings.

The test : Since we are looking for a trend leading to the ultimate gain, we will play with a wider range of the variables, that is , the pulse strenght will be spread over 3 level : 5, 7.5 and 10 volts, and the masses use will now be 0, 12, 31 and 43 grams. This leaves us with 12 combinations again and, of course, done twice each for stabilitys sake.

The results : As seen in spreadsheet results_130109.xlxs , a maximum gain has been obtained at low pulse and a mass of 31 grams. This gain falls when we increase the mass. As previously seen in part 1, an increase in pulse lead to a drop in gain, whatever the mass used. Looking at the low pulse vs mass curve, we can establish a mathematical relationship between the 2 variables. This equation is unique to this particular setup and allow us to determine the ultimate mass to use for maximum gain. In this case, a mass of 31.6 grams would yield a gain of 151.39. The conclusion : Now that we know that a sweet spot does exist, our next test would be to look for other combination that would provide a great gain under a larger pulse. Looking at the curve of the 2 higher pulse level on the graph, we cannot establish if the portion of curve we are seing is before or after the bump of the maximum gain.
