Comenius Diaries

- December 2012 -

One project, five countries and a lot of different cultures, thats what makes the Comenius project so special. The first meeting took place in December 2012 in Gstrow in Germany. The Swedish, Italian, Irish, Spanish and German students worked all together on the main topic Edumedia. The following pages will tell you more about it.

Monday, 17th of December The day began for our guests at 8 am in the school with a German lesson organized by some German students. At the end of the lesson we had a little competition to prove the just learned German skills. After a small break our choir and the principle Mr. Hickisch opened the meeting with a little speech. Later every country introduced their school and city with a powerpoint. Afterwards we worked in groups on Brave New World and the questionnaires. In the afternoon some of the German students showed our guests Gstrow and its attractions. In the evening we had a welcome party in the school where we ate typical German food (for example potatoe salad). Before finishing the evening Aisling showed us an Irish dance.

Tuesday, 18th of December

For the second day we planned a trip to Rostock. At first we went to the Darwineum(thats a house in the zoo) where we could see an exhibition about Charles Drawins evolutionary theory. It may sound a bit boring but it wasnt because we saw a lot of different animals like turtles, jellyfish or apes. We also played little games to prove our just learned skills in the museum. After a little break in the cafeteria in the zoo we went to the city centre, where the foreign students had a guided tour through Rostock. Then we had time to go shopping or to visit the Christmas market. We spent the rest of the evening at home or in the hotel.

Wednesday, 19th of December On this day we all went to school where the different groups (technical group, BNW group, questionnaire group) worked on their projects. After that we presented our results in the computer room. But we should not forget that the students and also the teachers needed a break so we had freetime till 7 oclock because at that time the Christmas concert began. There we saw great performances from Ian and Frida. The evening ended with a small party.

Thursday, 20th of December The time flew and the day of departure arrived. For all of us it was a very eventful week in which we found many new friends. We enjoyed these days very much and hope that our guests did that as well. We would be happy if the next two years go on like this!

Thanks to all the teachers and the European Union for giving us the possibility to get in contact with other cultures, traditions and new people! :)
