MAKING A PIPING BAG (USING GREASEPROOF PAPER)

Piping Bags are best made with greaseproof Paper. Never make a bag larger than is necessary for the job in hand. If you put too much icing in the bag, it puts an unnecessary strain on your hand, resulting in unsteady work.

Take a sharp knife and cut the paper along the folded edges, producing two triangles from each rectangular piece. Fold again to mark the centre of the folded edge.

Hold the paper in the right hand, so that the right angle is on the right hand side and the short edges is at the top.

Take the point in the left hand and bring this upwards and over the right hand. Do not pull tight, but allow it to remain slack.

Turn the right hand anti clockwise ( counter- clockwise) And at the same time move the left point towards the right hand then the sharp point is obtained and it becomes taut If making small bags, withdraw the third and fourth fingers of the right hand so that the bag will not be too wide at the top when completed. Transfer the point to the thumb and forefinger of the right hand temporarily, without letting the bag unroll, then turn the bag until the point is facing away from you.

Fold in the flap once and then again, Make two small tears approximately 5mm (1\4 inch) apart, and fold the flap down to lock in position
