    Assignment-2 on Pile Foundations

    I. Theoretical Part
    (1) In determining the allowable load capacity of piles, it is recommended that different safety factors be applied for the ultimate skin friction resistance and for the ultimate end bearing resistance. Explain the reason. For which one do you apply a larger safety factor? Why? (2) A building is to be constructed on a site with a deep sand stratum and is to be supported by pile foundations. The design and analysis of the pile will be based on one of the following options: a) STP values, b) CPT values, & c) Static bearing capacity equations. Indicate the order of your choice and explain why.

    II. Design Part


    a) Redo the software Help example of Pile CPT within GEO5 on pile design of a single pile & a pile group. b) Do (a) analytically & compare the results.
