INTRODUCTION

Doe Run Peru S.R.L. is owned by The Doe Run Company of the US, the worlds largest integrated primary lead producer, which also has excellent fabricating and recycling facilities.The acquisition of the La Oroya metallurgical complex from the Peruvian government in October of 1997 marked The Doe Run Companys first venture outside the US and was also the first time the Company's product line was expanded beyond lead to include copper, silver, zinc, gold and other metals. Doe Run Perus metallurgical complex at La Oroya is located in the Central Andean Highlands of Per, at 3,775 meters above sea level, and 180 km northeast of the city of Lima, Peru. The complex is regarded to be one of the three largest metallurgical operations in the world. This owes to its operations diversity and large number of processes for the treatment of polymetallic concentrates with high content of impurities and precious metals, which enable it to produce a large variety of refined metals and byproducts. This metallurgical facility is made up of four integrated circuits: copper, lead, zinc and precious metals. Changes have been recently introduced in the aforementioned, aimed at improving Doe Run Perus processes and operations. At present, The Company produces eleven metals (copper, lead, zinc, silver, bismuth, cadmium and refined indium, gold, selenium powder, tellurium and antimony), as well as eight chemical by-products (sulfuric acid, oleum, sodium bisulfite, copper sulphate, zinc sulphate, zinc powder, arsenic trioxide and silver-zinc concentrate). Doe Run Perus yearly production capacity is: 70,000 tons of refined copper, 120,000 tons of refined lead, 45,400 tons year of refined zinc, 1,200 tons of refined silver and 2.35 tons of gold bullion. The Company sells its products to customers in the local market and worldwide. Metals processed at the La Oroya complex are shipped to companies in Asia, The United States, South America and Europe. Doe Run Peru's ultimate objective is to keep its customers supplied with high-quality metal products that are consistently pure, at competitive prices, and to deliver them on schedule. The Companys activities are carried out in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, applying state-of-the-art technology and modern management tools. For exportation, Arsenic Trioxide is packed in 25 gallon ( 95 l) steel drums lined inside with plastic bags. For domestic sale, arsenic trioxide is packed in 55 gallon (208 I) steel drums. In both cases, drum covers are sealed with one rubber ring and one metallic ring. Drums for export from Callao are shipped in palletized bundles of six drums and secured with two 1-1/4" (3,2 cm.) sealed steel straps. 25 gallon drum = 350 Ib. (160 kg). 55 gallon drum = 750 Ib. The quality of refined lead is under BS-EN: 12659-1999 specification Refined Lead ingots are packed in bundles of 25 ingots each. Ingots are placed in rows of 5. Four 1 1/4" sealed steel straps secure the bundle.The weight of the bundle is 2450 Ib approx. (1125 kg), each bundle is covered with two round of stretch film. Refined Lead blocks are shipped without stretch film. For special shipment six plastic straps of 3/4 inch are used for each package. The quality of refined zinc is Special High Grade "Good delivery (99,995+ %) and is under BS-EN-1179-2003 Specification. (1) Value that in total impurities shall not exceed 100 ppm. (2) Tin in Special High-Grade shall not exceed 10 ppm. PACKAGING.Refined Zinc slabs are packed in bundles of 4 foot slabs and 48 plain slabs. Four 1 1/4" sealed steel straps secure the bundle. The weight of the bundle is 3 140 Ib approx. (1 430 kg). Zinc balls are placed in polypropylene bags that are sealed and then packed in cardboard boxes, weighing an average of 25 kg per box. Pallet Packaging : 40 boxes with a net weight of 1 000.0 kg of zinc balls are placed on a pallet, which is finally covered with 4 layers of stretch film.
