Free Reel Romania is a non-profit project presented by Free Reel Mobile Cinema, a UK-based initiative of Cinephilia Services Ltd. The project will carry out a six-week programme of free film screenings and short filmmaking workshops in rural communities across Romania that have restricted access to cultural activities, in June and July 2012. Short films produced in the workshops will subsequently be screened to local communities and toured around Romania as part of the mobile cinema touring programme, as well as being showcased in special screenings at well-established film festivals in Romania and the UK throughout 2012 and beyond. Free Reel Romania will also offer the most promising workshop participant a scholarship on a film production course at Brighton Film School Central, an established centre for film production training in the UK. This pilot project is produced in partnership with several Romanian NGOs including Art We, Komunitas and CREATIV, and in collaboration with the NexT International Film Festival in Bucharest and the Transylvania International Film Festival in Cluj. We are currently appealing for public or private donations to aid in our running costs and we also welcome any offers of sponsorship or collaborative partnerships.
