Common for S4 ECE & S6EEE Time: 2 hours (Answer all the questions) Maximum Marks: 50

1. A discrete signal is obtained by sampling an analog signal at a rate 20% above the Nyquist rate. The analog signal is band-limited to 2 kHz. To obtain the spectral content of the signal, a 32-point DFT is taken. What is the spectral spacing (in Hz) between adjacent frequency samples? What happens if the sampling frequency is not selected judiciously? (6 marks) 2. Find the output of the filter h(n) { 1 ,1 ,1 } for the following input sequence

x(n) { 3, 1, 0, 1, 3, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1 } . Assume that

handle and hence use any block convolution method to compute the output. 3. Let x(n) be defined as x(n) = 1 ; = 0; n=0,1, 2 otherwise

Compute the 4-point DFT and 8-point DFT for the above sequence and compare the plots of magnitude spectrum for both the cases (N stands for 4 & 8 respectively). Which one yields a better approximation of obtained through DTFT and why? (12 marks) 4. Consider the two sequences
