CONICS

conics
Conic sections are intersections of a plane and a double-napped cone. These intersections do not pass through the vertex of the cones.
Circles: planes passes through one cone parallel to the base Ellipse: plane passes through one cone not parallel to the base Parabolas: plane passes through a cone and its base Hyperbola: plane passes through both cones

parabola
A parabola is a curve consisting of a set of points P whose distance from a fixed point (focus) is equal to the perpendicular distance from P to a line (directrix) that does not contain the focus.
standard equation: y = ax + bx + c
2

vertex equation: y= a(x-h)2+k

we can use parabolas in Suspension Bridges:

The parabolic shape of the cables along suspension bridges help carry the forces acting on the bridge to the top of the towers (which can usually stand flexing, buckling, and oscillation)

circle
A circle is a simple shape of Euclidean geometry that is the set of all points in a plane that are a given distance from a given point, the center The distance between any of the points and the centre is called the radius. equation: (xh)2+(yk)2=r2

we can use circles in bicycle wheels Circles are the best shape for a bicycle because they roll very easily because they are round.

ellipses
an ellipse is a plane curve that results from the intersection of a cone by a plane in a way that produces a closed curve. circles are special cases of ellipses, obtained when the cutting plane is orthogonal to the cone's axis we can use ellipse in Satellite and Planet Orbits Kepler's first law of planetary motion is: The path of each planet is an ellipse with the sun at one focus.
Horizontal Major Axis Vertical Major Axis

hyperbola
A hyperbola is a conic section defined as the locus of all points in the plane the difference of whose distances and from two fixed points (the foci and ) separated by a distance is a given positive constant.

we can use hyperbola in Gear transmission

Two hyperboloids of revolution can provide gear transmission between two skew axes. The cogs of each gear are a set of generating straight lines.
