Coffee production in India is dominated in the hill tracks of South Indian states with Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. India accounts for about 4.5 percent of world coffee production. Almost 80% of the country's coffee production is exported.

Ideal climatic condition to grow coffee are related to temperature and rainfall. Temperature in the range of 23 C to 28 C. Rainfall incidence in the range of 60-80 inches.

About 75% of coffee produced in India is exported to over 88 countries in the world. The top five export market for Indian coffee are Russian, Italy, Belgium, Germany and Spain. India increase in exports of coffee by 15% in 2005-2006.

The coffee board of India is a autonomous body functioned under Ministry of commerce and industry. Coffee board of India Set up under an Act of the Parliament of India in the year 1942. Board focuses on research, development, extension, quality upgradation, market information.

ICOCA evaluates the application and conducts a plant/factory and/ or plantation visit. 3. ICOCA prepares Evaluation Report and assigns an exporters ICO identification code number. 4. ICOCA approves and releases the exporters Certificate of Accreditation. 5. ICOCA orients the newly-accredited exporter on the systems, rules, and procedures of exporting coffee.
