Claire DiGirolomo

April, 2011 For the portfolio of Claire DiGirolomo It has been a pleasure to have been Claire DiGirolomo's teacher for two classes during her first year at DePaul University. The first class was "From Halsted to Diversity: Ethnic Neighborhoods in Chicago" during autumn quarter and "Jewish Culture in America," which Claire took during winter quarter. Both are offerings among the Liberal Studies program curriculum required of first year students. That Claire has chosen courses centered on diversity and multiculturalism speaks to her expansive interests and her appreciation of the tapestry that is American culture. In our Jewish Culture class during winter quarter one of Claire's papers was selected to review with the entire class. Though names are removed from the papers, I checked with Claire ahead of time so that she felt comfortable with this. The paper was a poignant blending of book analysis coupled with a comparison of her own family as situations connected with the characters in the book. Her written work reaches the core of the literature allowing a steppingstone to personal application. I reiterate that it has been a pleasure to be Claire's teacher because she is an earnest and motivated student who approaches her teacher and peers with courtesy and consideration. A capable writer and gracious person, she was also pro-active in submitting her work. Handing in work on time is expected; submitting work early is appreciated. I believe that Claire DiGirolomo will flourish in whatever she attempts, educationally and professionally. Sincerely, R.J. Isackson Instructor, English Department Former Director, Bridge Program
