Travertine terraces (calcium carbonate)

The building stone travertine is formed by solution deposits of CaCO3.

In the country of Croatia there is an interesting national park near the town of Plitvice, called Plitvicka Jezera.

It consists of a series of lakes in a large limestone canyon. These lakes have each been built by naturally formed travertine dams. Lets take a look.
