Type of Government
Italy has a Republic form of government and is often called by its name The Italian Republic. Italys government runs very similarly to the United States Government in the sense that officials are voted for and elected for office. Italys government includes a bicameral parliament (Chamber of Deputies and Senate), an independent judiciary, and an executive branch composed of a Council of Ministers (cabinet), headed by the president of the council (prime minister). Executive
The Executive branch is led by the chief of state and the prime minister. In Italy, the prime minister is referred to as the president of the council of ministers. Much like the president of The United States elects his cabinet, the Italian Prime minister and President elects a council of ministers. The executive branch is responsible for approving the laws.

Legislative
The legislative branch is made up by the parliament and senate or in Italian the Parlamento and the Senato della Repubblica. These two groups make up a total of 315 members of the legislative branch .These members are elected by votes and can serve up to a five year term. Parliament is in charge of creating the laws.
