Chanting Lessons 2009

Lessons commence on Thursday 5 March 2009

Beginners (students who are learning from Margaziotis theory book)


3:45pm – 4:15pm

Intermediate (students who are up to Anastasimatarion)


4:30pm – 5:00pm

Advanced (students who are competent reading Byzantine Music)


5:30pm – 6:30pm

An outline of the classes can be seen below

Beginners:
 Students are introduced to reading Byzantine Music
 Students learn by using Margaziotis theory book (yellow book)
 Students exposed to basic ecclesiastical hymns
 Students are encouraged to have as much practical exposure on the psaltiri and will learn the
basics to isokratema.
 Once finished, students move up a level and attend intermediate class.

Intermediate:
 Students have started chanting from the Anastasimatarion
 Students learn how to use the Anastasimatarion on a Sunday service and begin learning hymns
that are chanted on Sundays
 Students in this group are encouraged to have as much practical exposure to the psaltiri as
possible.

Advanced:
 Students have completed lessons from the Anastasimatarion
 Students in this group will learn different leitourgika, cherubic hymns, koinonika and other
ecclesiastical hymns which are chanted during services and also hymns that have a more
complex nature
 At this level, students will by now be chanting regularly at church services and will have an
active role on the psaltiri.
