Instructor: Clinton Schrader Lesson Date: March 3, 2013

Topic: Checks and Balances Time: 45 minute class period

Objective:
This lesson is intended to introduce my students to the governmental process of checks and balances of power within the major branches of national government along with the consequences of having too much centralized power through PowerPoints and sample clips from teachertube.com. The overall lesson objectives for the day would be to show the process that takes place in national government in order to make a decision.

Learning Goals:
My students will be able to: Identify the powers of the executive branch. Identify the powers of the legislative branch. Identify the powers in the judicial branch. Know the powers of each branch over one another.

Materials:

I, the teacher, will provide a PowerPoint presentation and all the worksheets necessary to this lecture. The student must only bring: Pencil and paper. Previous notes.

Procedures:
Introduction: Explain to the students what the lecture will be about. As well as pass out the outline of todays notes. Lecture for 40 minutes and allow 5 minutes for questions following the lecture.

Evaluation:
At the end of class directly following my lecture I will verbally assess the students by asking them questions directly from the lecture notes. Participation will be noted and rewarded.
