Personal Statement The skills and experiences that I gained while pursuing an undergraduate degree in psychology prepared me for

entering law school and seeking a career as a lawyer. My proficiency as an analytical reader and writer combined with a commitment to a strong work ethic will ensure success in law school and allow me to thrive in my career as a lawyer. Understanding the science of psychology today requires one to think critically. In my career as a psychology undergraduate I was taught to read science news articles with a discerning eye. Journalists reporting on stories in psychological research have an incentive to embellish the findings of researchers. Sometimes the actual implications of research are not as captivating as reporters would like them to be. Learning to question the assumptions and claims of authors of such news articles is paramount to comprehension of the findings of psychological research. Proper analysis of a news article requires one to read and understand the relevant academic journal article of the research presented. Gaining insight into the nature of psychological research requires synthesis of the knowledge gained from a journal article and the critical analysis of the authors claims in the news article. I am aware that analytical and critical reading and writing are two skills that exceptional lawyers possess. In the past I excelled in classes that were heavily reading and writing based. I earned over a 3.0 average GPA in every psychology class taken in college. This is direct evidence to support the fact that my excellent reading and writing abilities will allow me to achieve highly and thrive in law school.
