Bangkok Waterways

By Mikas and Pahdee

First Presbyterian Church

Samray, Bangkok was started by the American Presbyterian Mission in 1849.
Its on a relatively quiet stretch of the Chao Phraya River near the Krung Thep Bridge. The regular passenger boats dont pass this way and the old church goes unnoticed. The casual visitor could hardly be aware of the history of this church which is a testament to the efforts of the pioneers in the American Presbyterian Mission and the Thai Presbyterians over the last 160 years.

Protestand Cemetry

The Cemetery contains the graves of Christians (and Jews) of many nationalities and walks of life, such as merchants, missionaries, traders, diplomats, seamen and engineers, to name but a few.

Assumption Cathedral
Assumption Cathedral is located within 100 meters of the Oriental Hotel and the French Embassy, and the original building was the result of the request from a French missionary, Father Pascal in 1809 and the work of a French architect which saw the cathedral completed in 1821 during the reign of King Rama II.
