EXT. ROSA (REBOOT COMPOUND) - DAY

A confident looking HUMAN OFFICER carrying some kind of handheld scanning

device walks down a line of REBOOTS, standing at attention.

WREN (V.O.)
When you're from the slums like me, there's a
good possibility you'll reboot when you die.

OFFICER
22, step forward.

CALLUM, looking nervous, holds out his wrist and the officer scans the barcode
tattooed into his flesh.

WREN (V.O.)
You come back stronger. Faster. Able to
heal. But also less emotional. It makes us
perfect soldiers.

OFFICER
84, step forward.

84, tougher looking than 22, goes through the barcode process.

WREN (V.O.)
The longer you were dead, the more changed
you are when you Reboot. By the time you
get to 120 minutes, there's barely any human
left.

OFFICER
125, step forward.

125, eyes glowing, thrusts out his wrist. Scanned.

WREN (V.O.)
And then there's me.

The officer takes a deep breath. Continues walking, suddenly nervous. Stops
before an unseen reboot.

OFFICER
(stuttering)
If you could...if you don't mind...
An impatient hand reaches out and takes the scanner from him--and scans
herself.

CU ON - WRIST

She brushes past the officer. He watches her go, visibly relieved.

WREN (V.O.)
I thought there was no human left in me at all.

She passes Callum, still holding his wrist and looking distraught.

Their eyes meet.

WREN (V.O.)
I was wrong.
