Anatomy proximity terms

In anatomy every are of the body has a specific location and the use of these terms enable doctors to eliminate the event of ambiguity and ergo confusion A lot of these words are of latin/ greek origin . The anatomical position This position is the standard position that cadavers are placed in when under examination it consist of the feet being together about 6 inches apart, flat on the floor and the toes pointing forward. The arms are down at the sides with the palms turned forward with the thumb side of the hand away from the body. When the body is lying back to table this is known as the supine position. However when the body is lying face to the table it is known as the prone position

Specific regions Anatomists use specific terms to indicate visible areas of the body these are different compared to the common every day terms. The cephalic region refers to the head The cephalic regoin is futher divided into the: o Cranium (skull) o facies (face) o frons (forehead) o oculus (eye area) o auris (ear) o bucca (cheek) o nausus (nose) o oris (mouth) o mentis (chin) o The neck area is called the cervicis or cervical region
