Technique of the Month

I was recently asked about the
difference in using water color
pencils or chalk to color an im-
age.
Water Color Pencils:
Using the pencils you will color
in your image just like you did
when you were a child. If you
want the color to be darker,
color it a little more. If you want
to create shading color less.

Now the cool part, using either a
blending pen or a water brush go
over your coloring. This will
give you an effect that looks very
much like a water color painting.
I prefer the blending pen be-
cause I find it does not get as
wet as the water brush.
Chalk:
Apply chalk to an image by using
either a small cotton ball, the
end of a q-tip or a blending pen.
I have found some q-tips with
small points that work very well
for this. You will get a very simi-
lar look as the water color pen-
cils. However the chalk will
smudge and is harder to control
where you put it unless you use
the blending pen.
