A Rabbit Show Here

Our first fully sanctioned double show is presently being planned. We are hoping to host a double youth and open show in Humboldt County sometime in 2014. Between now and then a venue must be identified, and funds to fuel the event raised. A rabbit show for Humboldt County benefits not only us local rabbit breeders, who often travel hours to register and grand champion our herds; this event will also benefit the local economy.

Onward and Upward: Humboldt Charter gets active

The Board of Directors has been hard at work masterminding some exciting rabbit events in Humboldt County. While our founding mission is to bring an annual American Rabbit Breeders Association sanctioned show to Humboldt County rabbit breeders (and anyone who wants to visit), we are working on a Color Genetics Workshop with a possible potluck lunch, fundraisers, and a Youth Field Day Fall 2013.

Easter Rabbit Pictures

Would you like to give your children a chance to visit with an Easter Bunny without the responsibility? We will be setting out to take pictures for you with our bunnies at local feed stores over the next few weeks leading up to Easter.

Fortuna Feed Saturday March 23

From 10 am to 3 pm we will have a selection of rabbits to choose from for you and your children to sit with and have portraits taken on bales of hay. The cost for this service will be ten dollars. But the bunny cuddles will be more than worth it! We will also have information on club membership.

A&L Feed Date To Be Announced

If you are in living too far North to make the drive to Fortuna Feed, we will be setting up to take pictures with our bunnies in McKinleyville at A&L Feed.

Easter Bunnies as Presents

Our board of directors has discussed this topic, and although we do not completely condemn the practice, we do feel that serious thought should be given to the prospect of acquiring a pet rabbit for a child on Easter. Rabbits live up to and sometimes beyond eight years of age. They may need treatments for medical problems, such as parasites or paralysis. Rabbits tend to suffer from abscesses that can be very resistant to treatment, and in this way are very different than a cat or a dog. We are not against rabbits being pets for responsible children, but we want to see our rabbits go to families that are willing and able to take them to the vet as needed, clean their cages weekly, and give them time out of their cages for exercise. For this reason, some breeders will not sell rabbits around Easter, unless it is to a close friend or relative.
