RAVING REVIEW OF THE YEAR!

Interview with Mrs Jones by Athena Tzallas

For her first ever interview with BPS News, I spoke with Mrs Jones in her office in school one afternoon at the end of last month. I began by asking her for her highlight of the school year. Mrs Jones said there were many things she could choose from, including the Carol Concert, but the BAFTAs had impressed her most. This was the second year that weve run the BAFTAs, she said. It was something which the children were inspired by, and it involved the parents as well. I was very proud that so many children from BPS wanted to make films. When asked if the year had fulfilled her expectations, Mrs Jones answered very positively. There are never enough days in the school year to do everything. The school always wants to do more for the children. She said that what made her most pleased was that BPS has a lot of happy children who want to come to school. As for her plans when we come back after the summer holiday, Mrs Jones said she was always willing to listen to our ideas. There will be new children at the school in September and they will come with new thoughts and ideas. I dont necessarily want to change anything - just improve what already happens. Mrs Jones asked children to come up with ideas to make Buckingham Primary School an even better place to learn and have fun. Finally, Mrs Jones had a special message for all the children during the summer -have a happy holiday and stay safe!
Mrs Jones also asked me to pass on her thanks to the Newspaper Club for producing such a brilliant publication. Special thanks went to Mrs Butcher, Mrs Gough, Mrs Hens and Mr Hermon for all their help.

YEAR FOUR REACHES NEW HEIGHTS BY DOMINIC BUTCHER AND SORCHA HERMON
Year 4 went on a trip to Chalfont Heights between the 12th June 2008 and the 21st June 2008. Some people went for the day, some for 2 days and a night and some even for 3 days and 2 nights. But the end result was the same. WE ALL HAD A FANTASTIC TIME! We had lots of activities to do, and these included climbing, abseiling, crawling through tunnels in the rabbit run as well as archery, swimming and playing skittles in the evening. We stayed in a building called the Rowallan Lodge. The rooms all had names of animals. They were The Rabbits, The Badgers, The Foxes, The Hedgehogs and The Squirrels. We all liked the evenings when we got hot chocolate and biscuits. What could be better! All in all Year 4 enjoyed the trip to Chalfont Heights and we would like to thank all of the teachers for organising the trip and we hope they had as much fun as we did. I, Sorcha, thought it was a great experience and here is what some other people said: I really enjoyed the swimming most of all because we soaked Mrs Powell! Laura Couves I liked archery because its one of my favourite sports. Jamie Choulerton. Owen Jefferies also liked archery. He said Its good exercise and I got a bullseye. Year 3s Trip through Buckingham

By Hannah Hens
On the 22nd May, Mrs Elses class and half of Mr Adams class went on a school trip. The school trip was a walk through Buckingham. We did this because we have been studying how Buckingham has changed throughout the ages. We were looking at the different sorts of houses and how things have changed with land use, house style, size of houses and how the centre of Buckingham has changed. Once Buckingham used to be county town but lost it when the place where the court was held started crumbling, after that the county town was Aylesbury and has been ever since. We learned that the Old Goal was built to try and win the county town back to Buckingham but that did not work. The church collapsed twice when they tried to build it. In the end they had taken so long that the place they were building the church was no longer the middle of Buckingham, and so they built the new church (now St Peter and Pauls) somewhere else. We learned lots more during this lovely walk and drew lots of pictures of the things we saw.

CAMPBELL PARK TRIP

BY Kanza and Chelsee

The whole of Year 3 went on a trip to Campbell Park. We went to see all of the beautiful sculptures. We also saw a gorgeous, peaceful canal. Year 3 went on this trip because they had been learning about sculptures in class. These are there names of some of the sculptures we saw: Gnomon Head Chain Reaction The Object. The Dancing Circle is made out of willow trees and it looked brilliant. Interestingly, it is the only one made from nature, which means that it needs lots of care. Thank you to the Year 3 teachers for taking us.

This years Spring Fair had a difference it was a Music and Arts Festival!! On the 10th May Buckingham Primary School was a buzz of activity from 11.00 till 2pm. As well as the traditional Spring Fair activities such as Tombola, bouncy castle and the famous BBQ, we saw how much talent Buckingham Primary School has. There were performances by all the Year Groups, Orchestra and singing club, as well as Street Dancing. There were also workshops in various performing arts such as Djembe Drumming. There was also an exhibition of pictures and works of Art by local artists. Loads of people went to the fair and joined in a lot of events across the school. Altogether Buckingham primary school raised over 3000. Thank you to all who supported this event.

Between 3rd and 5th June the year Fives went on the French trip. They all had an excellent time and really enjoyed the visit. For many children it was either their first time away from home or from their family and therefore it was a brilliant experience for them and for everyone else too.

They travelled by Eurotunnel and stayed at a small hotel. The children went to visit a French fish market, a bakery, and a chocolateria. They also visited Nausicca Aquarium. On the way back they went shopping at a Hypermarket and spent lots of their pocket money. Many of the children found the trip a once in a lifetime experience. Chloe McMinn wrote a short diary entry to sum up the first day of the trip:
Tuesday 3rd June 2008 Chloe McMinns Diary Entry Today we left school at 8:00am. People kept trying to eat on the bus when it wasnt the right time to but they got told they werent allowed. The train was very noisy and when the women spoke through the speakers we covered our ears because it was very loud. When we got to France we stopped in a French town to do a quiz the teachers had organised. We walked up to some battlements and looked over the wall. We were very high up and I was very scared. Last year we collected 60,000 Tesco and Sainsbury vouchers, which the school used for new goal posts and lunchtime equipment so it would be great to beat the record this year. We must say a great thank you to Mrs Sawyer for organising counting clubs and sending the vouchers in. Also a big thank you to all the children for counting the vouchers. So far we have beaten last years total and we are still counting. This years money will be used to buy digital cameras and head phones.

CLEAN SWEEP FOR REDS AT SPORTS DAY

By Euan Williams
On the 11th of June, we had a wonderful time on KS2 Sports Day. We all had fun! The red team won in Y3 and Y4 with 102 points, but it was very close. The blue team came second with 100 points and then green team in third with a still impressive 96 points. The red team won again in Y5 and Y6 . In Y5, the scores were: Red 58, Blue 47 and Green 40. And, in Y6, they were: Red 50, Blue 47, Green 40 and Yellow 36. Red seems to be lucky colour because the red team have now been the winners for five sports days in a row. KS1 held their Sports Day on 10th June and everyone who took part really had a fantastic time. Here is a photograph my mum took of children enjoying themselves.
