WP Flywheel
WP Flywheel
A flywheel is a heavy rotating body which acts as a reservoir of energy. The energy is stored in the flywheel in the form of kinetic energy. The flywheel acts as an energy bank between the source of power and driven machinery little consideration will show that when the flywheel absorbs energy, its speed increases and when it releases energy, the speed increases and when it releases energy, its speed increases and when it releases energy, the speed decreases. Hence a flywheel does not maintain a constant speed. It simply reduces the fluctuation of speed. In other words, flywheel controls the speed variations by the fluctuation of the engine moment during each cycle of operation. In the E Yantra MEDO Flywheel module, disc flywheel, rimmed type of flywheel, flywheel for punching press and design of flywheel based on available turning moment diagram can be done.
1. Information for the design of flywheel available at start of problem can be different as obtained. 2. Using data, the excess energy is calculated.
3. Knowing the angular velocity & coefficient of fluctuation of speed, the moment of inertia of flywheel is calculated. 4. From the moment of inertia, weight of the flywheel is calculated and assuming a radius of flywheel based on available space thickness, width of flywheel is decided. 5. Thickness of arm near boss and near rim is then calculated. 6. With the help of thickness of arm near boss, radius of cross section is calculated. 7. With the help of thickness of arm near rim, radius r1 is calculated. 8. Outer diameter of boss is calculated with the help of diameter of shaft on which flywheel is mounted.
