MUSIC 1910-1914

Blackheath Halls Music Appreciation Classes Monday mornings with Matthew Taylor
The years immediately preceding the First World War are amongst the richest and most varied in the history of 20th Century music. Whilst these turbulent times saw the emergence of a younger generation of modernists: Schoenberg, Stravinsky and Bartok, Strauss completed Rosenkavalier, Mahler worked on his last two symphonies and Sibelius and Nielsen were at the summit of their powers. In Britain, Elgar and Vaughan Williams were in full cry, and Debussy and Ravel were as active in France as Rachmaninov and the young Prokofiev were in Russia. And in America there was Charles Ives . . . Do join us for this fascinating period in music.
