ULTRA SONIC TECHNEQUE FOR NDT Source of sound is in a state of vibration Smaller amplitude & higher frequency ultrasonic Diffraction Scatter Absorption

Attenuation of

Energy =5 MHZ for thin plate Velocity measurement by pulso echo method U = 6000 m/sec. for aluminium U =5800 m/sec. for steel U = 3300 m/sec. for composite for thick plates: 1 MHZ

More the thickness of the part more will be the attenuation The transmission speed of ultrasonic sand increases with increase of fibre loading X-RAM 10-20KV - for carbon and Kevlar parts 20-60KV - for glass parts

NDT ULTRASONIC TESTS

Transmitting high frequency sound waves through material Human ear respond to sound 20 Hz 2000 Hz Below 20Hz in audible Infrasonic Above 20,000Hz in audible -Ultrasonic

Location of flaw and magnitude of flaw can be seen through CRT screen Time Vs Amplitude display ( Pulse echo technique) ( Through Transmission technique)

PULSE VIDEO THERMO GRAPHY

The part is heated to say 30-40C Heat diffusion into the part take place. The diffusion depends on the internal defects. This is detected by the IR camera and the back side of the part.
