MUSIC of 1914-1918

Blackheath Halls Music Appreciation Classes Monday mornings with Matthew Taylor
The years of the First World War provoked some of the most enduring masterpieces of the early 20th Century from a vast range of composers. Unsurprisingly, much of the music actively reflected the horrors of those years though some of the most beautiful and haunting sounds from the century can also be heard during music from this period. Faur, Sibelius, Strauss, Debussy, Ravel, Prokofiev and Stravinsky, to name but a few, were all fully in their element, demonstrating that these turbulent times revealed an era of extraordinary creative richness.
