e standardized product-focused process to increase efficiency and lower costs in pig production, rather than using the traditional method. With the traditional method, pigs are raised outdoor, giving pigs a comfortable environment, however, this method requires a lot more space requirements comparing to the product-focused method. If the farms chose to use the traditional method, the cost of pig will be more expensive. Therefore, in order to cut cost to reduce the meats price, farmers have chosen to use the product-focused method. With the product-focused method in which the pigs spend their life time, including pregnancy time, and even give birth in the small stalls. These stalls are so small, such that they cannot even move around. The animal-welfare advocates say that such confinement drives pig crazy. However, if Premium Standard Farms of Princeton wants to compete with others farms, they need to use the product-focused method. If they chose to use the traditional method, their meets price would be higher than other producers due to the cost of bigger space requirements compared to the product-focused method. As of result, their meet would not be able to compete with others producers. In the end, it is really the consumers responses and choices that have significant effect on the farmers production.
