In this experiment, each group must build a device that uses the basic principles of different kinds of mirrors.

The group was asked to make a parabolic reflector. A parabolic reflector is used to gather energy such as light waves, sound waves, and radio waves and reflect it to a focus point, therefore, making concentrated energy . In Ancient Greece and Rome, a mathematician named Diocles wrote that parabolic reflectors focus a parallel beam to a point. in his book, On Burning Mirrors. It is also said that Archimedes made a very huge parabolic reflector and used it to make opposing ships on fire in the Siege of Syracuse battle. In modern days, we use the parabolic reflector in many different ways. One of these uses is to gather enormous amounts of light energy making intense heat energy that can be later on converted to electricity. Another use is for cooking. When a person wants to heat food, he can just simply put his food directly in the focus. Satellite dishes, spotlights, car headlights, and reflecting telescopes are some kinds of parabolic reflectors. If the parabolic reflector is made in such a precise way, results of having a concentrated energy point is high. The objectives of this experiment are to make a precise parabolic reflector, test its effectiveness, and determine certain characteristics the parabolic reflector has.
