Horror films are an exciting and a thrilling experience for most audiences, which is why I have chosen brief

#2 along with the genre of Horror Teen Slasher. I decided to choose the 5 texts which I have researched through looking at lists compiled by viewers themselves on what they view as the best teen slasher films. I visited sites such as amazon, IMDb and various blogs and student forums. In the end, the five comparable texts that I have chosen are as follows: Friday the 13th, Prom Night, I know what you did last summer, Urban Legend and Sorority Row. By looking at the various codes and conventions that appear in horror films, it has inspired my own pre-production in which I aimed to produce a piece of work that carried out the typical conventions. One main point I took from the five texts is the setting, in which the conventional settings are typically small communities or isolated places which may include lakes or forests including deserted cabins or houses. These are present in the five texts Ive studied; Prom Night includes the isolated setting of a hotel which connotes desolation. Also, Friday the 13th was the most typical of the lot as it included a numerous amount of conventional signifiers, such as: a small community that is isolated within the midst of dark woods, with an abandoned cabin near a lake and most importantly this setting holds a dark history. These all connote feelings of being alone or feeling helpless. In my preproduction piece the setting is held in a small isolated village on the outskirts of a town named Tekopan, in which a forest and lake along with a deserted cabin is present. The reason for which I chose the village name Tekopan is because in Finnish the word Teko implies an act of accomplishment, in addition to pan which connotes the camera movement of tracking. Combined it could suggest the tracking of a characters achievement. Typically used iconography such as the characters clothing is similar in the five texts as in the characters wore simple, everyday wear to suggest their innocence, and to also show their social class or age group in this case, it was mainly teenagers around the ages of 17-25. For my pre-production piece I decided to approach it with similar aspects of appearance from Friday the 13th. The four main protagonists in my opening sequence are to be dressed in casual yet sporty looking wear such as tank tops and shorts for the female roles, loose tees and cargo pants for the male roles. Furthermore, for the role of the villain, clothing artefacts such as long black robes that hide the villains body and masks to cover the face are present in all texts except for Prom Night and Sorority Rows opening sequence. Also, there is always a symbolic weapon present such as; machetes, axes, knives, and bear traps. In my pre-production piece the symbolic weapon is a machete. Moreover, the characterisations of teen slasher films often involve the villain suffering from a traumatic childhood or a mental disability. For instance, in Friday the 13th, Jason who is the villain, witnesses the beheading of his Mother, in which he then seeks to sought revenge. Inspired by this, I tried to combine the experience of a traumatic childhood with a mental disability. For my antagonist I decided to give him a brain damage which causes

hallucinations such as a voice which speaks to him, which then causes him to murder his own sister. In addition, the main characters that always appear in a horror film is a group of immoral teenagers who are seen as stupid for going into unknown places.
