Clean Power.
During the combustion process inside an engine, the chemical energy is transformed into a mechanical one. Due to the impurity of fossil fuel during the combustion process, several toxic substances are produced. They are primarily NOx, CO, HC, PM.
NOx: Nitrogen Oxides are the main cause of acid rain and ozone layer reduction. At high combustion
temperatures, usually above 1600C, molecular nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2) disassociate into their atomic states and react producing NOx.
CO: Carbon Monoxide is a poisonous gas, tasteless and odourless. It develops during combustion in
presence of low oxygen concentration (rich blends) or when the oxygen is not uniformly distributed. CO emission for Diesel engines are low.
HC: Hydrocarbons are composed by organic elements - contained both in the fuel and in the oil and produced by incomplete combustion. The HC amount increases together with the fuel volume in the combustion chamber.
PM: Particulate Matter is mainly composed by minute carbon particles and other toxic substances
created during incomplete fuel burning process i.e. low combustion temperature. The effects of inhaling particulate matter have been widely studied in humans and animals and include asthma, lung cancer and cardiovascular issues.
Being the most critical pollutants, NOx and PM have been both reduced by approximately 60% since 1996. The next big challenge will come in January 2014, when a new limit established by Tier4Final/Stage IV emission regulations will call for a further drastic reduction of Nitrogen Oxides at more than 80% vs. Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB legislation.

(1) Only worst case (lower) limits reported (higher limits available for limited power bands in USA and for CO and PM in Europe). (2) NMHC considered for US Tier Limits. (3) EU Stage IIIB and Stage IV PM limit is 0.025. (4) EU Stage IIIB NOx limit is 3.3. (5) EU Stage IIIB PM limit is 0.40.
Starting from the Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB, SCR Only technology allows exhaust emissions to comply with Tier 4 Final/Stage IV emission level in two simple steps.

Dosing Module
Mixer
2
SCR Only technology reduces NOx. Independently of the combustion process.
Tier 4 Final/Stage IV
Th high temperature The combustion c engine calibration ca produces NOx and a very limited lim amount of PM.
Dosing Module:
is the unit responsible for the injection of Water-Urea solution inside the SCR catalyst. It is managed by the Engine Control Unit.
DOC:
is a key component which hich increases the SCR performance especially at low temperatures.

10) Advanced technology: SCR Only is recognized by most of the engine manufacturers as the technology
CURSOR Series.
CURSOR Series, besides 8.7lt and 12.9lt displacement, will be enriched with a 11.1lt version. The Common Rail injection system will be extended to the whole range; in particular, the 11.1lt and 12.9lt versions will be equipped with a HD (Heavy Duty) Common Rail able to ensure injection pressures up to 2200 bar. The 12.9lt version will also be proposed with a Dual Stage Turbocharger able to reach up to 500 kW. As well as NEF Series, CURSOR Series will adopt a new Engine Control Unit in charge of SCR system management. CURSOR Series will cover a power range from 220 kW to 500 kW. CURSOR Series is still available in Tier 3/Stage IIIA and Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB versions.

FPT Industrial has chosen to focus on customers productivity and optimization of the operating costs, recognizing SCR Only technology as the best solution for medium & heavy duty engines. SCR Only allows to reduce the high operating costs by working on fuel consumption and maintenance intervals (oil change). With the SCR Only technology gas reduction is submitted to the after-treatment system outside the engine which is thus capable of performing optimal combustion with lower fuel consumption.
For customer of agricultural applications, there are at least 10 valuable reasons by which SCR Only is the most convenient choice: Lower Fuel consumption Outstanding Performance Longer Service interval High Reliability Unbeatable Durability Compact packaging Wide Fuel Compatibility User friendly solution Environmental care Advanced technology
SCR Only will be commercialized in all the countries where the emission regulations will require Tier 4 Final /Stage IV standards.
Will DEF (Diesel Emission Fluid)/ AdBlue be distributed also in the USA? Is there any critical issue regarding SCR Only introduction in the USA?
Yes.
No, because by 2011 the DEF/AdBlue distribution network will be developed in the USA (many American engines manufacturers will adopt SCR Only for EPA10 on road compliances).
A led on the vehicles cluster will switch on and the engine will be switch to limp home mode to preserve the safety and emissions compliance.
No, FPT Industrial SCR system perfectly works at low temperature. Even in case of cold start with DEF/AdBlue frozen (temperature below -11C/12F) the engine works properly without any derating. No. Of course OEMs have to respect FPT Industrial SCR installation guidelines. The system is engineered in order to be easy to install, with exibility in terms of length of pipes & height positioning.
