    2.2 Work Piece Material The AISI410 stainless steel plate has been used as a work piece material for the present experiments. AISI410 is a basic martensitic stainless steel which will attain high mechanical properties after heat treatment. It has good impact strength, corrosion and scaling resistance up to 1200 F (649 0C). It has varied practical applications such as making cutlery, steam and gas turbine blades and buckets, bushings, valve components, fasteners, screens and kitchen utensils. The working life of AISI410 can be improved with suitable heat treatment. The chemical composition of this material as obtained by EDAX (Electro Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) test is given in Table 2.1. It can be welded by gas metal arc welding, submerged arc welding, spot welding, flash welding, friction welding, high frequency welding & electron beam welding. 10
