The Book of Revelation ‫كتاب بدء الوحي‬
Hadeeth No. 1 Narrated 'Aisha:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, ‫حدثنا الميدي عبد ال بن الزبي قال‬
"The reward of deeds depends
upon the intentions and every ‫حدثنا سفيان قال حدثنا يي بن سعيد‬
person will get the reward
according to what he has ‫النصاري قال أخبن ممد بن إبراهيم‬
intended. So whoever emigrated
for worldly benefits or for a ‫التيمي أنه سع علقمة بن وقاص الليثي‬

was for what he emigrated for." ‫يقول سعت عمر بن الطاب رضي ال‬

‫بالنيات وإنا لكل امرئ ما نوى فمن‬
‫كانت هجرته إل دنيا يصيبها أو إل‬
‫امرأة ينكحها فهجرته إل ما هاجر إليه‬

(the mother of the faithful ‫حدثنا عبد ال بن يوسف قال‬
believers) Al-Harith bin
Hisham asked Allah's ‫أخبنا مالك عن هشام بن عروة‬
Apostle "O Allah's Apostle!
How is the Divine ‫عن أبيه عن عائشة أم الؤمني‬
Inspiration revealed to
you?" Allah's Apostle ‫رضي ال عنها أن الارث بن‬
replied, "Sometimes it is
(revealed) like the ringing ‫هشام رضي ال عنه سأل رسول‬
of a bell, this form of
Inspiration is the hardest of ‫ال صلى ال عليه وسلم فقال يا‬

Sometimes the Angel comes

talks to me and I grasp
whatever he says." 'Aisha ‫الرس وهو أشده علي فيفصم‬
added: Verily I saw the
Prophet being inspired ‫عن وقد وعيت عنه ما قال‬
Divinely on a very cold day
and noticed the Sweat ‫وأحيانا يتمثل ل اللك رجل‬
dropping from his forehead
(as the Inspiration was ‫فيكلمن فأعي ما يقول قالت‬
over).
‫عائشة رضي ال عنها ولقد رأيته‬
‫ينل عليه الوحي ف اليوم الشديد‬
‫البد فيفصم عنه وإن جبينه‬
‫ليتفصد عرقا‬

(the mother of the faithful ‫حدثنا يي بن بكي قال حدثنا‬
believers) The
commencement of the ‫الليث عن عقيل عن بن شهاب‬
Divine Inspiration to Allah's
Apostle was in the form of ‫عن عروة بن الزبي عن عائشة أم‬
good dreams which came
true like bright day light, ‫الؤمني أنا قالت أول ما بدىء به‬
and then the love of
seclusion was bestowed ‫رسول ال صلى ال عليه وسلم‬
upon him. He used to go in
seclusion in the cave of Hira ‫من الوحي الرؤيا الصالة ف النوم‬
where he used to worship
(Allah alone) continuously ‫فكان ل يرى رؤيا إل جاءت مثل‬
for many days before his
desire to see his family. He
‫فلق الصبح ث حبب إليه اللء‬
used to take with him the ‫وكان يلو بغار حراء فيتحنث فيه‬
journey food for the stay
and then come back to (his ‫وهو التعبد الليال ذوات العدد قبل‬
wife) Khadija to take his
food like-wise again till ‫أن ينع إل أهله ويتزود لذلك ث‬
suddenly the Truth
descended upon him while ‫يرجع إل خدية فيتزود لثلها حت‬
he was in the cave of Hira.
The angel came to him and ‫جاءه الق وهو ف غار حراء‬
asked him to read. The
Prophet replied, "I do not ‫فجاءه اللك فقال اقرأ قال ما أنا‬
know how to read.
‫بقارئ قال فأخذن فغطن حت‬
The Prophet added, "The ‫بلغ من الهد ث أرسلن فقال اقرأ‬
angel caught me (forcefully)
and pressed me so hard that ‫قلت ما أنا بقارئ فأخذن فغطن‬
I could not bear it any
more. He then released me ‫الثانية حت بلغ من الهد ث‬
and again asked me to read
and I replied, 'I do not ‫أرسلن فقال اقرأ فقلت ما أنا‬
know how to read.'
Thereupon he caught me ‫بقارئ فأخذن فغطن الثالثة ث‬
again and pressed me a
second time till I could not ‫أرسلن فقال اقرأ باسم ربك الذي‬
bear it any more. He then
released me and again
‫خلق خلق النسان من علق اقرأ‬
asked me to read but again ‫وربك الكرم فرجع با رسول ال‬
I replied, 'I do not know
how to read (or what shall I ‫صلى ال عليه وسلم يرجف فؤاده‬
read)?' Thereupon he
caught me for the third time ‫فدخل على خدية بنت خويلد‬
and pressed me, and then
released me and said, 'Read ‫رضي ال عنها فقال زملون‬
in the name of your Lord,
who has created (all that ‫زملون فزملوه حت ذهب عنه‬

Ibn 'Abbas in the ‫حدثنا موسى بن إساعيل قال‬
explanation of the
Statement of Allah. 'Move ‫حدثنا أبو عوانة قال حدثنا موسى‬
not your tongue concerning
(the Quran) to make haste ‫بن أب عائشة قال حدثنا سعيد بن‬
therewith." (75.16) Said
"Allah's Apostle used to ‫جبي عن بن عباس ف قوله تعال‬
bear the revelation with
great trouble and used to ‫ل ترك به لسانك لتعجل به قال‬
move his lips (quickly) with
the Inspiration." Ibn 'Abbas ‫كان رسول ال صلى ال عليه‬
moved his lips saying, "I am
moving my lips in front of ‫وسلم يعال من التنيل شدة وكان‬
you as Allah's Apostle used
to move his." Said moved
‫ما يرك شفتيه فقال بن عباس فأنا‬
his lips saying: "I am ‫أحركهما لكم كما كان رسول‬
moving my lips, as I saw
Ibn 'Abbas moving his." Ibn ‫ال صلى ال عليه وسلم يركهما‬
'Abbas added, "So Allah
revealed 'Move not your ‫وقال سعيد أنا أحركهما كما‬
tongue concerning (the
Qur'an) to make haste ‫رأيت بن عباس يركهما فحرك‬
therewith. It is for us to
collect it and to give you (O ‫شفتيه فأنزل ال تعال ل ترك به‬
Muhammad) the ability to
recite it (the Qur'an) (75.16- ‫لسانك لتعجل به إن علينا جعه‬
17) which means that Allah
will make him (the
‫وقرآنه قال جعه له ف صدرك‬
Prophet ) remember the ‫وتقرأه فإذا قرأناه فاتبع قرآنه قال‬
portion of the Qur'an which
was revealed at that time by ‫فاستمع له وأنصت ث إن علينا‬
heart and recite it. The
Statement of Allah: And ‫بيانه ث إن علينا أن تقرأه فكان‬
'When we have recited it to
you (O Muhammad through ‫رسول ال صلى ال عليه وسلم‬
Gabriel) then you follow its
(Qur'an) recital' (75.18) ‫بعد ذلك إذا أتاه جبيل استمع‬
means 'listen to it and be
silent.' Then it is for Us ‫فإذا انطلق جبيل قرأه النب صلى‬
(Allah) to make It clear to
you' (75.19) means 'Then it
‫ال عليه وسلم كما قرأه‬
is (for Allah) to make you
recite it (and its meaning
will be clear by itself
through your tongue).
Afterwards, Allah's Apostle
used to listen to Gabriel
whenever he came and after
his departure he used to
recite it as Gabriel had

Hadeeth No.
- Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

Allah's Apostle was the ‫حدثنا عبدان قال أخبنا عبد ال‬
most generous of all the
people, and he used to ‫قال أخبنا يونس عن الزهري ح‬
reach the peak in generosity
in the month of Ramadan ‫وحدثنا بشر بن ممد قال أخبنا‬
when Gabriel met him.
Gabriel used to meet him ‫عبد ال قال أخبنا يونس ومعمر‬
every night of Ramadan to
teach him the Qur'an. ‫عن الزهري نوه قال أخبن عبيد‬
Allah's Apostle was the
most generous person, even ‫ال بن عبد ال عن بن عباس قال‬
more generous than the
strong uncontrollable wind ‫كان رسول ال صلى ال عليه‬
(in readiness and haste to
do charitable deeds).
‫وسلم أجود الناس وكان أجود ما‬
‫يكون ف رمضان حي يلقاه‬
‫جبيل وكان يلقاه ف كل ليلة من‬
‫رمضان فيدارسه القرآن فلرسول‬
‫ال صلى ال عليه وسلم أجود‬
‫بالي من الريح الرسلة‬

- Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas:

‫الوحيإيانا وقوله جل‬
The Book of Revelation ‫بدءفزادتم‬
‫كتابآمنوا‬
‫الذين‬
in the near future till I embraced
Islam (i.e. Allah guided me to ‫ذكره فاخشوهم فزادهم إيانا وقوله‬
it)."
‫تعال وما زادهم إل إيانا وتسليما‬
The sub narrator adds, "Ibn An-
Natur was the Governor of llya'
‫والب ف ال والبغض ف ال من اليان‬
(Jerusalem) and Heraclius was ‫وكتب عمر بن عبد العزيز إل عدي بن‬
the head of the Christians of
Sham. Ibn An-Natur narrates ‫عدي إن لليان فرائض وشرائع وحدودا‬
that once while Heraclius was
visiting ilya' (Jerusalem), he got ‫وسننا فمن استكملها استكمل اليان‬
up in the morning with a sad
mood. Some of his priests asked ‫ومن ل يستكملها ل يستكمل اليان‬
him why he was in that mood?
Heraclius was a foreteller and an ‫فإن أعش فسأبينها لكم حت تعملوا با‬
astrologer. He replied, 'At night
when I looked at the stars, I saw ‫وإن أمت فما أنا على صحبتكم بريص‬
that the leader of those who
practice circumcision had
‫وقال إبراهيم عليه السلم ولكن ليطمئن‬
appeared (become the ‫قلب وقال معاذ اجلس بنا نؤمن ساعة‬
conqueror). Who are they who
practice circumcision?' The ‫وقال بن مسعود اليقي اليان كله وقال‬
people replied, 'Except the Jews
nobody practices circumcision, ‫بن عمر ل يبلغ العبد حقيقة التقوى حت‬
so you should not be afraid of
them (Jews). ‫يدع ما حاك ف الصدر وقال ماهد‬
'Just Issue orders to kill every ‫شرع لكم أوصيناك يا ممد وإياه دينا‬
Jew present in the country.'
‫واحدا وقال بن عباس شرعة ومنهاجا‬
While they were discussing it, a
messenger sent by the king of
‫سبيل وسنة دعاؤكم إيانكم لقوله عز‬
Ghassan to convey the news of ‫وجل قل ما يعبأ بكم رب لول دعاؤكم‬
Allah's Apostle to Heraclius was
brought in. Having heard the ‫ومعن الدعاء ف اللغة اليان‬
news, he (Heraclius) ordered the
people to go and see whether the
messenger of Ghassan was
circumcised. The people, after
seeing him, told Heraclius that
he was circumcised. Heraclius
then asked him about the Arabs.
The messenger replied, 'Arabs
also practice circumcision.'

(After hearing that) Heraclius


remarked that sovereignty of the
'Arabs had appeared. Heraclius
then wrote a letter to his friend
in Rome who was as good as
Heraclius in knowledge.
