About PROTON
Perusahan Otomobil Nasional Berhad (PROTON): was established in May 7, 1983 under the direction of the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to manufacture, assemble and sell motor vehicles and related products, including accessories, spare parts and other components. Was Malaysia's dominant carmaker until the establishment of Perodua in 1993. Produced Malaysia's first car, the Proton Saga, on July 9, 1985 at its first manufacturing plant in Shah Alam, Selangor.

PROTONs site
Main plant: Shah Alam, with an area of 923,900 sq metres- originally designed for a capacity of 80,000 units per year. In 1997, capacity increased to 230,000 units per year with the construction of the Medium Volume Factory which is next to the Main Plant. Now : Main plant at Shah Alam is capable of producing 240,000 vehicles per year. Proton plant Tg Malim was opened in 2004: the first model to be manufactured , Proton Savvy.

Logo of PROTON
Until the end of the 1990s, the car's logo featured the crest from Malaysia's coat of arms, featuring a crescent and a fourteenpointed star. The new Proton logo features a stylized tiger head, as well as the change from the lowercase italic text "proton" to uppercase "PROTON".

31 March 2010. Recorded an Audited Profit After Tax: RM218.9 million. Unaudited Financial Statement of PROTON recorded and Unaudited Profit After Tax of RM239.1 million. Represented a variation (of RM20.2 million or 8.45%) between the Audited and Unaudited Profit After Tax for the said financial year and this was due to: additional provision for bonus (RM15.5 million), impairment of plant and machinery (RM6.0 million), development cost written off (RM4.0 million), adjustment for tax credit of RM4.0 million and other favourable adjustments amounting to RM1.3 million.
