Example: The great American humorist Will Rogers was proud of his Cherokee heritage: he often referred to it in his talks and writings. 1. William Penn Adair Rogers was born in 1879 in Oologah, Indian Territory, which is now Oklahoma, and he spent his childhood on his father s ranch, a rather prosperous holding of about sixty thousand acres. 2. As a youth, Will Rogers liked to learn and practice rope tricks he often could be found roping instead of attending to his chores. 3. Rogers was captivated by professional roping performers at the Chicago Worlds Fair in 1893; in fact, that experience probably marked the start of his interest in show business. 4. He went on to do some roping and humorous speaking at fairs and other public gatherings however, his actual show business debut came in 1902. 5. From 1922 until his death in 1935, Rogers wrote a syndicated newspaper column that Sunday column featured his unique and humorous insights into national and international news.
