1. A flooring system is arranged as in Fig. 1. It consists of 12m span primary beams supporting 6m span secondary beams. The secondary beams are in turn supporting non-composite, 80 mm deep, pre-cast concrete slabs as indicated. a. Determine the design bending moment and shear force diagrams for the primary beams. Assume self-weight and imposed loading due to use as an office are the only forces acting. b. Select a trial-section for the beam based a simple bending capacity check. c. Complete a full-design of the primary beam, ideally using a complete version of the skeleton spreadsheet available on WebCT. 12m
