Council President Gloria Anticipates Equality Determination from Supreme Court

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 25, 2013) Council President Todd Gloria today released a statement about the U.S. Supreme Courts hearings on the issue of marriage equality. He also spoke at the Community Call to Prayer for Marriage Equality at the Metropolitan Community Church. The Court will start hearing oral arguments tomorrow and Wednesday in its review of the constitutionality of Proposition 8, a California state ballot measure approved by voters in 2008 that banned same sex marriages, and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). My message to the Justices is very simple: America is ready, said Council President Gloria. Like millions of LGBT Americans and our straight allies, I am anxious for the Supreme Court to strike down Proposition 8 and DOMA and add to the Courts long history of ensuring equality for all citizens. ###
