Summary of FAFSA Processing Statistics


January 1, 2005 — June 30, 2006
(Year End Report)

The following is a summary of FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) processing
statistics for the electronic and paper FAFSA.

As of June 30, 2006:

 Over 13.8 million students had submitted the FAFSA for academic year 2005/2006.

 Eighty-nine percent (over 12.3 million students) of the filers submitted the FAFSA
electronically. The share of students who submitted the electronic FAFSA in 2005
increased by 11.9 percent.

 The percentage of students filing the paper FAFSA decreased from approximately 2.5
million to 1.5 million, a nearly 40 percent decrease from 2005.
