REACTION

The objectives of the Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality studies (YAFS) is to provide updated information on adolescent sexuality and reproductive health issues. According to the findings of YAFS there are not many who engage in premarital sex but a substantial proportion do. For me this is really alarming. Because that substantial proportion will certainly increase and will lead to the diminishing of our values that have been passed to us by our ancestors. Change is essential, but its a pity to witness it diminish. Our values are important because it is a part of our tradition; and our tradition is a part of our culture. Our culture is a part of us. It is also part of our identity. Without it, we are not Filipinos. We are just mere strangers to that name. Foreigners to our own motherland. No matter how I contradict myself that that change in our generation is because of the fast changing world. I end up with one conclusion: if our values change we are no longer who we are. And in addition to that, its amazing how brainless adolescents could be. Basing from the findings of YAFS, the less educated are prone to premarital sex. But we cant deny the fact that, there are educate people that are involved. The percentage of unwanted sex for girls is lesser than the wanted sex percentage. But its not like its against there will right? Going back to how brainless adolescents could be, basing again form the findings of YAFS. Wretched people are those who are sexually active. And for me sexually active people are on another level of wretchedness. These people just plunge themselves to their misery and chose to stay there. They dont think much about their problems; they just act as if they are atlas. And to ease their misery they engage in sex (which is a basic need, a fact which I cant deny), and to think that they do it unprotected. There are other means of easing misery except engaging in sex. For me this kind of thing is just a matter of thinking in different perspectives and not acting recklessly. If you will learn to assess things before deciding, there should be no problem. Sexually active people have lower self-esteem. There is always a point in our lives that we doubt ourselves and our self-esteem lessens. I think, this is inevitable. And again is a matter of thinking things thoroughly. There are still many options where you can feel good about yourself. Nevertheless its a matter of thinking things, and self-control. We know for a fact that sex is pretty much a risk to us girls, rather than boys. Especially if unprotected.
