Summary Observations

The timeline illustrates the following facts regarding the hijackers' travel to the US:

1. All of the hijackers' visas were multiple entry tourist visas, with the exception
of Hanjour's visa, which was a single entry student visa (never an issue since
Hanjour didn't depart the US after his 12/8/00 arrival).

2. Of the Hamburg group (Al Shehhi, Atta, and Jarrah), Al Shehhi was the first
to obtain a visa, on January 18, 2000; Atta and Jarrah obtained their visas on
May 18, 2000 and May 25, 2000, respectively.

3. Of the muscle hijackers, only Nawaf al Hazmi and Khalid al Mihdhar

obtained visas before September 2000.
4. Between September 2000 and November 2000, 9 of the remaining 13 muscle
hijackers obtained the visas they would use to enter the US.

5. Between June 12, 2001 and June 19, 2001, the remaining four muscle
hijackers (Saeed al Ghamdi, Khalid al Mihdhar, Abdul Aziz al Omari, and
Salem al Hazmi) obtained the visas they would use to enter the US.

6. Fourteen of the fifteen muscle hijackers (i.e., all but Nawaf al Hazmi) entered
the country between May 2, 2001 and July 4, 2001.

7. During the five-month period preceding the 9/11 attacks, hijackers Jarrah
(4/13, 8/5), al Shehhi (5/2), al Mihdhar (7/4), and Atta (7/19) entered the US
on the dates indicated, after already having spent time in the US.
