Opening Statement

Have children help set out the sponges, paint and paper. Have them assist pouring the paint into bowls

What will children do? Earlier children will dip sponges in paint and rub it on the paper Middle children will dip sponges in paint and make shapes with the paint Later Children will dip the sponge in the paint and then dab their finger in it and then paint with their finger

Strategies: Ask the children to describe what they are doing

Strategies: introduce new vocabulary and comment on what they are doing Imitate what the child is doing

Strategies: Introduce new tools for painting, sandpaper, cotton balls, etc.
