Letters and handwriting

Write a capital alphabet placing the letters in pleasing positions to form a composition. Try varying this by making the letters different sizes. These can be coloured in later.

Alphabet designs

Cut-out alphabet

The alphabet below was cut directly out of card with scissors. I didnt draw it beforehand, but each letter can be drawn first if you like. Use one or more colours for the alphabet and paste the letters on a contrasting background. I glued them down and arranged them as I went, but you can also cut first and arrange all the letters before gluing.

Window decoration

Buy a broad tipped window marker and write the persons name on the window of their room. Using decorative scripts, you can write the names of the children and grandchildren too. These markers are easy to wipe off with a dry or wet cloth unless you leave them on for more than a few weeks.

Handwriting

If the person likes to use a pen or felt tip, provide a large sheet of paper and demonstrate how to create all kinds of loopy, swirling letters. They can be legible or not and only loosely related to letters. These sheets can be used as raw material for further colouring in, to make cards, collages, or wrapping papers.
