FDFCC-?

process for propylene production

A changing environment due to strong petrochemical markets and clean fuels

regulations presents an opportunity to refiners to get their FCC units
improved. The FDFCC-â…¢, a new type of cracking process developed
and licensed by LPEC, has following features:
a) It has two different risers in one FCC unit. The primary riser cracks heavy
vacuum GasOil or heavier feeds as a conventional FCC riser does, whereas
the second riser is designed to upgrade gasoline. The two risers usually
operate at different conditions
b) The spent catalyst from the second riser is in certain amount recycled to
the base of the primary riser to be mixed with the regenerated catalyst in a
vessel where a specially-designed tube makes the central catalyst density in
the Gasoil riser increased
c) The two risers have separated fractionating towers which share one set of
clarified oil system.

The FDFCC-â…¢ process is remarkably capable of enhancing

propylene yield and reducing dry gas yield. Additionally, the quality of
unconverted naphtha was improved, with significant increases in RON and
MON, while substantially decreasing its sulfur and olefin content. Since 2003,
LPEC has designed seven FCC revamps and two new FCC units that
incorporate FDFCC-â…¢ technology for the purpose of enhanced
propylene yield and improved naphtha quality. So far five of them have been
commissioned.
