Electromagnetic Spectrum Poster 1) X-Rays, Ultraviolet, Infrared, visible light, microwaves, radio waves, Gamma Rays 3) Uses Radio

waves are the best for communications as it has a really long wavelength. This allows the wave to pass through the earths crust, buildings and water. An example of the usefulness of radio waves for communications is in radios and walkie-talkies. Microwaves are used for communicating with satellites and is the wave involved with GPS. Infrared waves are used in some video games such as Wii as well as TV controllers. A problem with infrared is that it cannot pierce through walls; it has to be in sight of the receiver. Doctors to see inside the person, looking for any injuries, use X-Rays. X-rays are also used at airports. The X-Ray pierces through soft tissue but cant pierce through the bone, which helps us see if there are any breaks. Gamma Rays are used to kill off cancer cells, but it can also kill other cells if a mistake is made. Ultraviolet is what causes you to tan. It is also used in lamps in clubs as a fluorescence light, which makes your clothes glow. UV can also be used in hospital to kill microbes and make it a safer place. Visible light is used to see things. Everything we see is from the visible light given off by the sun. It is also used to create CDs and DVDs.

4) Use of wave related to properties of wave Due to the low frequency of the radio wave it can diffract over obstacles such as mountains and valleys. The low frequency and long wavelength means it can travel long distances, which is important for communications.
