A RESOLUTION CONCERNING AN EMAIL UNSUBSCRIPTION SYSTEM NOTING that the issue of excessive, irrelevant emails to the student body has been a significant concern, as they clutter email inboxes, resulting in an undue inconvenience and the potential to overlook important emails, and that the Fall 2011 Student Concerns Survey, administered by the Student Concerns Committee and completed by over 1,400 respondents, indicates that 89% of students are in favor of being able to unsubscribe from certain email feeds, and that the Office of Information Technology has been working arduously with student representatives to address this issue by creating an email unsubscription system whereby students can unsubscribe from certain email feeds, and that several peer universities of SMU, including Rice, Cornell, Vanderbilt, and the University of Texas, have such an email unsubscription system, that the SMU Students Association encourage and offer full support to the Office of Information Technology to continue working with student representatives to finalize such an email unsubscription system, and that the SMU Students Association insist the SMU administration to allow the implementation of this email unsubscription system once it is finalized.
