JOUNLIZING PROCESS

The form of the journal

In the first column the date of the transaction is entered-the year is written at the top, then the month and the narrow part of the column the particular date. In the second column, the name of the accounts involved are written; first the account to be debited, with the word Dr written towards the end of the column. In the next line, after leaving a little space, the name of the account to be credited is written preceded by the word To. Then in the next line the explanation for the entry together with necessary details is giventhis is called narration.

In the third column the number of the page in the ledger on which the account is written up is entered. In the fourth column the amounts to be debited to the various accounts concerned are entered. In the fifth column, the amount to be credited to various accounts is entered.

EXAMPLES
1.Furniture is purchased for cash Rs. 2000.
Furniture Account To Cash Account ( Being Furniture purchased ) Dr. Rs.2000 Rs. 2000

2. Paid Rs.5000 to the clerk as salary.


Salary account To Cash Account (being salary paid to Mr...for the month of) Dr. Rs.5000 Rs.5000

3. Rs.1000 deposited into the Bank.

Bank Account To Cash Account

Dr.

Rs.1000 Rs.1000

(Being cash deposited into the bank )
