RETARDATION AT SLB PART C / TUNA GRAHITA DHARMA ASIH PONTIANAK WEST KALIMANTAN XVI + 58 Pages + 6 Tabels + 2 Pictures + 10 Appendixes RESEARCH BACKGROUND : Mental Retardation is a condition with the lack of intelligence (subnormal) since the time of development (from birth or a chilhood) usually there is a lack of mental development as a whole but the main sympton is a retarded intelligence. Mental Rerardation is also called Oligofrenia (oligo means lack or little and fren means soul) or blind. This condition is characterized by general intelligence functions that are below the average. It is accompanied by a reduced ability to adapt or adaptivebehavior. THE RESEARCH PURPOSE The research is aim to know the correlation between parents' role with the Independence child of Mental Retardation. THE REASEARCH METHODOLOGY This research is belong to The Observation Research . It just make a survey by using Cross Sectional Approach. It is used to make a description of the correlation between Parents' Role with The child independence of mental retardation. The Technique of Taking the Sample is done accidentally sampling towards parents' of mental retardation. The total number is 80 samples. The Technique of collecting data is using Questioners. The data analysis is using Chi Square. RESULTS The result of the reasearch indicates that there is a significan correlation between the role of parents with the child independence of mental retardation ( p= 0.019) CONCLUSION In a conclusion, the correlation between the role of parents' with the child independence of mental retardation. If the role of parents is good so the child independence is good as well. In contrary, if the role of parents' is not quite good, so the child independence ia bad.
