Christmas Party Salvation Army Womens and Kids Center

Christmas Party We had a Christmas party for the children at the Salvation Army Womens and Kids Center so that the mothers had a chance to get a way for a while. The kids and the moms that stayed were so much fun. All the kids had a blast doing different kinds of crafts. Some decorated ornaments, made Christmas trees out of popsicles sticks, and made Santas out of cotton balls, plates, and construction paper. Also, we made cookies with the kids. As soon as the cookies were done they all decorated them and ate them all right away. It was a great chance to spend time with the mothers and kids and to celebrate this Christmas with them. On a Saturday night a group of us went to downtown Indy to go skating for a fellowship. Little did we know that it would be ridiculously crowded at the skating rink. Our back up plan was to go get delicious hot chocolate and go to the circle. While we enjoyed our hot chocolate we watched the horse carriages go by and just enjoyed the evening. After we all finished our hot chocolate we went to the Indianapolis Circle Center Mall. Some of us went to go get some Chick-Fil-A while others just walked around the mall. It was a great night to relax and enjoy downtown before a week full of finals.

LEADERSHIP

Early on the first Saturday back from Christmas Break a group of us made no-sew blankets for Project Linus. Project Linus provides blankets to children who are not going through the best circumstances. The blankets the children receive are supposed to help them feel more comfortable and safe. First Kelsey gave delicious muffins that she cooked to everyone that wanted one. Next she taught us a new way to make no-sew blankets. Instead of using two layers of fabric we only used one. Once everyone figured out how to make the blankets it went pretty smoothly. It was a great opportunity to make blankets for children who will feel a little bit safer with them.

Shopping for Fletcher Place and Holy Family and March of Dimes 75th Anniversary Kick-Off

Shopping for Fletcher Place and Holy Family One Saturday morning Kelsey, Liz, and I went to WalMart to buy items to donate to Fletcher Place and Holy Family. The items they needed are essential for them to continue to run their organizations. The items we bought for Fletcher Place were: apples, potatoes, cereal, and beans. For Holy Family we purchased: notebooks, pencils, pens, highlighters, baby food, formula, diapers, bottles, and wipes. It was a great chance to help the places that we volunteer at regularly.

March of Dimes 75th Anniversary Kick-Off A group of us went to The March of Dimes 75th Anniversary Kick-Off which was held at the fairgrounds. The theme was sock-hop which is 50s themed. It was 50s themed because March of Dimes made huge strides in the 1950s. When we got there people were dressed up in poodle skirts and other 50s themed attire. First we walked around to the tables that were set up to promote March of Dimes. Next the event officially began. First people and organizations announced how much money they were going to donate or raise for March of Dimes. Next, there were some speakers that spoke on the differences that March of Dimes has made over time. After the speakers dinner began which consisted of mini hamburgers, mini hotdogs, and root beer floats. Preceding dinner a dance instructor came to teach everyone some 1950s dance moves. The night was a successful night and was a great chance to support one of the organizations that we partner with.

Breakfast at the Ronald McDonald House

Bright an early on a Saturday morning a group of us girls went to the Ronald McDonald House to cook breakfast for the families that were staying there. Some of us were becoming masters at making pancakes while others were cooking sausage and bacon. It was a great chance to serve breakfast to families that are going through difficult times at the moment.
